Warm summer salutations from Agni today. Well
first of all, no sign of our baby as yet - the doc says anytime this week! I
will of course keep you posted. Yesterday (30th October) was our
anniversary. Six years now. With Eleni
heavily pregnant, we decided to stay at home for a romantic meal in. Well guess who cooked? - Me! I searched through Eleni's cookbooks for ideas. It amazes me the volume of ingredients that the cookbooks say are needed. Eleni always seems to be able to rustle up a meal out of nothing! Anyway she was impressed with my efforts - not the mess I made! (Thanks to 'Francis' for his anniversary gift: a fine bottle of 'Chateauneuf du Pape' - it was superb.)
Sadly the Taverna is now closed for the winter. It certainly has been an exciting busy summer. It is encouraging to see so many keep on returning - becoming friends not customers. Of special mention our friends Brian and Elaine who claim to have visited Corfu over thirty times! Many regulars are also purchasing 'holiday homes' on Corfu. Property prices are still reasonable as long as you are prepared to hunt around, but
prices are rising.
Serving so many people each year is always an experience. Most people are a joy to serve, some a challenge! It is interesting to meet people on their first day of holiday - they are often stressed and require immediate service, whereas by the end of their holiday they have relaxed and start to use Greek expressions such as 'Avrio Avrio' (I'll do it tomorrow!)
You will be pleased to know, that we are spending your money wisely and have bought a house! We had been living in a small apartment, but now with baby on its way, we have had to move. Our new home is in Loustri which is just above Agni bay and Kalami. The views are stunning and we can now walk to work! During the move, the web cam had been inactive. I have now relocated it to its winter position - overlooking the jetty. Keep
looking at the web site as major changes are about to happen......

Customer of the Year
This year's award goes to 'Maurice'. Many will have seen him arriving in his green 'jet' boat. He always sits at the front-middle table under the tree, and comes in every day for lunch after work at about 3pm. His loyalty to us has been without equal. Only once did he try our nearest rival - he returned saying 'no matter how good the food, it must be accompanied by good service' As from next year, loyal Taverna Agni customers will notice preferential treatment!
What other Taverna plans do we have for next season? 'If it isn't broken - don't fix it', is the expression that springs to mind. But, we are planning some renovation and improvements. Next year of course sees the introduction of the Euro. It will be interesting to see how it will affect us. Incidentally, I have received a directive from Brussels concerning our toilet signs. They state: 'As from Jan 1st 2002, please observe the new 'currency correct' signs for use in
identifying public toilets. Please change any that refer to the expression 'Spend a penny' and replace with 'Euronate'.

This months competition!
